SHADOWY ARCADE
Solo Piano Improvisations
by
Mehmet Okonsar

1-He has snatched away the thunderbolt from heaven and the scepter from the sovereign
2-Briefly thyself remember (Lear)
3-Every hero becomes a bore at last (Emerson)
4-What stronger breastplate than a heart untainted (Henry VI)
5-A change came o'er the spirit of my dream (Byron)
6-Such stuff as dreams are made of (Tempest)
7-A merry heart goes all the day (A winter's Tale)
8-Angel visits few and far between (Campbell)
9-The gods too are fond of a joke (Aristotle)
10-Flowers preach to us if we will hear (Rossetti)
11-Illusion is the first of all pleasures (Wilde)
12-I give him joy that's awkward at a lie (Young)
13-Beauty born of murmuring sound (Wordsworth)
14-As Morning Light Breaks (Bob Dylan)

Musical improvisation
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Musical improvisation (also known as Musical Extemporization) is the creative activity of immediate ("in the moment") musical composition, which combines performance with communication of emotions and instrumental technique as well as spontaneous response to other musicians. Thus, musical ideas in improvisation are spontaneous, but may be based on chord changes in classical music.

Because improvisation is a performative act and depends on instrumental technique, improvisation is a skill. There are musicians who have never improvised and other musicians who have devoted their entire lives to improvisation.
[...]
Contemporary classical music

While the first half of the twentieth century is marked by an almost total absence of actual improvisation in art music, since the 1950s, some contemporary composers have placed fewer restrictions on the improvising performer, using techniques such as vague notation (for example, indicating only that a certain number of notes must sound within a defined period of time). New Music ensembles formed around improvisation were founded, such as the Scratch Orchestra in England; Musica Elettronica Viva in Italy; Lukas Foss's Improvisation Chamber Ensemble at the University of California, Los Angeles; Larry Austin's New Music Ensemble at the University of California, Davis; the ONCE Group at Ann Arbor; the Sonic Arts Group; and Sonics, the latter three funding themselves through concerts, tours, and grants. Significant pieces include Foss's Time Cycles (1960) and Echoi (1963).

Other composers working with improvisation include Richard Barrett, Pierre Boulez, Cornelius Cardew, Alvin Curran, Stuart Dempster, Hugh Davies, Karlheinz Essl, Vinko Globokar, Richard Grayson, Stephen Nachmanovitch, Pauline Oliveros, Terry Riley, Frederic Rzewski, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Richard Teitelbaum, Christian Wolff, Vangelis, La Monte Young, John Zorn and Yitzhak Yedid.

Several pianists also teach classical improvisation and perform, such as David Dolan, William Goldstein, Yitzhak Yedid and Eric Barnhill.

Gabriel Fauré

1991

Alıntı Wikipedia:

Gabriel Fauré is regarded as the master of the French art song, or mélodie. His works ranged from an early romantic style, when in his early years he emulated the style of Mendelssohn and others, to late 19th century Romantic, and finally to a 20th century aesthetic. His work was based on a strong understanding of harmonic structures which he received at the École Niedermeyer from his harmony teacher Gustave Lefèvre, who wrote the book Traité d'harmonie (Paris, 1889), in which Lefèvre sets forth a harmonic theory which differs significantly from the classical theory of Jean-Philippe Rameau in that seventh and ninth chords are no longer considered dissonant, and the mediant can be altered without changing the mode. In addition, Fauré's understanding of the church modes can be seen in various modal passages in his works, especially in his melodies.

In contrast with his harmonic and melodic style, which pushed the bounds for his time, Fauré's rhythmic motives tended to be subtle and repetitive, with little to break the flow of the line, although he did utilize subtle large scale syncopations, similar to those found in Brahms's works. Aaron Copland referred to him as the 'French Brahms'.[5] It has also been posited by Jerry Dubins in Fanfare Magazine that Gabriel Fauré is the "missing link" between Brahms and Debussy.

Fauré's piano works often use arpeggiated figures with the melody interspersed between the two hands, and include finger substitutions natural for organists. These aspects make them daunting for some pianists, but they are nonetheless central works.

Sergei Prokofiev

1991

Sergei_Prokofiev_02.jpg
[alıntı Wikipedia]
Prokofiev may well be the most popular composer of 20th century music. His orchestral music alone is played more frequently in the United States than that of any other composer of the last hundred years, save Richard Strauss,[73] while his operas, ballets, chamber works, and piano music appear regularly throughout the major concert halls world-wide.

[...]
But Prokofiev's music and his reputation stand well-positioned to benefit from the demise of cultural politics. His fusion of melody and modernism and his "gift, virtually unparalleled among 20th-century composers, for writing distinctively original diatonic melodies", may stand him in good stead as we begin to appreciate the unique genius of this most prolific and enigmatic of composers.

Conlon Nancarrow
Biography and Influences

Aşağıdaki biyografi Tom Rodwell (Aug. 1999)'dendir:
http://www.furious.com/PERFECT/conlonnancarrow. html
Accessed on: January 3, 2008
Eklerim ve görüşlerim alıntı şeklinde belirtilmiştir

Conlon Nancarrow, (1912-1997) was born in Texarkana, studied composition from an early age, with Slonimsky, Sessions, Piston privately in Boston and played jazz trumpet in local bar bands.

Among his composition teachers Nicholas Slonimsky is the author of one interesting book Thesaurus of Scales and Melodic Patterns. The book is an extensive catalog of scales created by symmetrical divisions of one or more octaves. Slonismki’s unique and interesting approach to harmony will probably have a strong influence on Nancarrow’s musical language. Nancarrow-portre1.jpeg

He joined the Lincoln Brigade and fought Franco’s fascists in 1930’s Spain, also becoming a member of the Communist Party. Upon his return to the USA, he resumed composition, and associated with other new radicals in the New York scene, including John Cage and life-long friend Elliot Carter.

Kaleidoscopes N1
Solo Piyano için

Ertuğrul Oğuz Firat için

Besteci tarafından Kıbrıs'da ilk seslendiriliş
Doğu Akdeniz Üniversitesi, Kuzey Kıbrıs

Kaleidoscopes dizisi, alban Berg'in "Bir Meleğin Anısına" Keman Konçertosunun özgün ses dizisi üzerine bestelenmiş üç parçadan oluşmaktadır.

Berg'in yukarıda adı geçen eserinde kullandığı özgün ses dizisi pekçok bakımdan eşsizdir.

The Free Software Foundation (FSF) is a non-profit corporation founded by Richard Stallman on 4 October 1985 to support the free software movement, a copyleft-based movement which aims to promote the universal freedom to create, distribute and modify computer software. The FSF is incorporated in Massachusetts, USA.

From its founding until the mid-1990s, FSF's funds were mostly used to employ software developers to write free software for the GNU Project. Since the mid-1990s, the FSF's employees and volunteers have mostly worked on legal and structural issues for the free software movement and the free software community.

Consistent with its goals, only free software is used on FSF's computers

Free software is a matter of liberty, not price
by Peter Brown — last modified June 22, 2010 11:34

The Free Software Foundation (FSF) is a nonprofit with a worldwide mission to promote computer user freedom and to defend the rights of all free software users.

As our society grows more dependent on computers, the software we run is of critical importance to securing the future of a free society. Free software is about having control over the technology we use in our homes, schools and businesses, where computers work for our individual and communal benefit, not for proprietary software companies or governments who might seek to restrict and monitor us.
